How should a removed Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) be properly powered?

Detailed process of VDR external power supply
In-depth investigations of major traffic accidents often require removing the Vehicle Data Recorder (VDR) for independent analysis to uncover the truth. However, providing safe and stable power to the VDR outside its original vehicle environment poses a significant operational challenge for field investigators. This article is based onGB/T 19056-2021 New National StandardHere's a step-by-step breakdown of the standard operating procedure for VDR offline power supply.
Step 1: Locate the power port
Connect pins A1 and A2 to the positive terminal of the 12V power supply; connect pin A5 to the negative terminal.
Step 2: Prepare the power cord and connection cable
Specific steps can be adjusted flexibly based on each laboratory's actual conditions. The core requirement is to equip a 12V power supply. The following demonstration uses the Zhongzhi Dingzheng EDR universal wire, a 12V power supply, and 3 Dupont wires for connection.
Step 3: Connect wires and power on
Step 4: Insert USB drive to extract data
Insert the VDR-specific USB drive into a USB port to export automatically.
Step 5: Data Parsing
OpenZhongzhi Dingzheng V100 Software(Supports both old and new national standards) Select the VDR raw file exported from the USB drive, then specify the approximate time range of the incident.
Data Parsing Results
Data includes fields such as time, longitude, latitude, altitude, heading, speed, ignition status, braking, steering, seatbelt status, lighting, and more. Detailed files can be exported to Excel.
